‘Mission: Impossible’ Star Hayley Atwell Shut Down Tom Cruise Dating Rumors

Hayley Atwell has finally put an end to years of dating rumors involving her and “Mission: Impossible” co-star Tom Cruise.

The actress told the “Independent” on Saturday that she considers him and director Chris McQuarrie to be “sort of two uncles” rather than romantic interests.

Over the weekend, Atwell, 41, stated that the “weird [romance] rumors” felt “dirty” and “grubby.”

“It’s not what I’m about,” she explained. Why are things being assumed or projected onto me about my relationship with my work colleague and boss?”

Atwell, who announced her engagement to composer Ned Wolfgang Kelly in April, called the allegations “upsetting” and “invasive” since “it’s involving people in my actual life, my personal life, who have to be on the receiving end of that.”

Fortunately for the “Agent Carter” star, she had Cruise on her side, who urged her to ignore the headlines.

“When I’ve talked to him about it, he’d be like, ‘You know exactly who you are. You know what you’re about. And that is the only thing that matters. It doesn’t matter what people think of you if you are in integrity with yourself if you know what your value system is,’” Atwell said.

In late 2020, a source informed The Sun that she and the 61-year-old “hit it off from day one” while filming “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One.”

While the duo kept a low profile during the speculation, they made headlines again when they attended the Wimbledon championships together the following July.

Speculation increased as they advertised “Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part Two” in recent months.

In June, Atwell told Entertainment Tonight that the “Top Gun” actor surprised her grandma with a “helicopter ride on Christmas Eve and… a tour of London.”

“I didn’t tell her it was coming because I knew she wouldn’t — there’s no way she’d get into a helicopter,” she said last month to the outlet.

Atwell raved about her grandmother’s “most wonderful time” with the “charming” and “kind” Cruise.

Atwell got engaged in April while on vacation in Venice. For his part, Cruise has recently stirred relationship speculations with Shakira.

The “Rain Man” star was photographed with the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer at the Formula One Grand Prix in Miami in May, and a source told TSZ US at the time that Cruise was “extremely interested in pursuing her.”

Cruise shares 17-year-old daughter Suri with ex-wife Katie Holmes, whom he married from 2006 to 2012. During his marriage to Nicole Kidman, he also adopted Isabella, 30, and Connor, 28.
