It happened while Taylor Swift was giving her acceptance speech for the Best Female Video trophy for “You Belong With Me.” She had referenced the incident during the “Evermore” set of her fourth Eras Tour show on Aug. 27.
“It’s the best way to be interrupted, by the way, just people chanting your name,” Swift told the crowd after her voice was temporarily cut off. It’s really the only way to be interrupted,” she added. “And I would know.” At the 2009 Awards Show, Kanye interrupted Swift by grabbing the mic out of her hand.
Then went on to declare that Beyoncé should have won the award instead. “Yo, Taylor Swift, I’m really happy for you, I’mma let you finish. But Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time!” West said at the time of Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies” clip.
The singer has won several VMAs awards. In fact, she had 14 Moon Person statuettes to her name, trailing only behind Madonna, who has 20 and with her nine awards won, she has surpassed the elderly songstress.
