Sam Smith has been trending on Twitter ever since his fans mistakenly labeled a performer who dived in to the crowd but wasn’t caught as him. 

Sam Smith fans mistakenly believed the performer crashed into the ground in a shocking stage dive after a video went viral via Twitter.

In the painful footage, someone dressed in a Ninja Turtle costume threw themselves into a crowd but wasn’t caught by audience members.

Trolls spread the viral footage over social media while simultaneously body-shaming the person thought to be Sam Smith.

The video was finally debunked when a video from a different angle came to light.

The truth is that despite the many accounts spreading the salacious information the crowd didn’t catch him whilst performing.

Another Twitter fan wrote, “The obsession right-wingers have with Sam Smith has combined with their affinity for fake news & false information,”

“This is so CLEARLY not Sam, they have truly never fact-checked a day in their life.”

Sam Smith Identifies as non-binary and uses “they/them” pronouns. They were similarly defended by fans when their “I’m Not Here to Make Friends” music video came out.

In the video, Sam Smith featured them in a range of sexy and skin-bearing outfits. Despite Backlash against Sam Smith’s blatant display of his sexuality, he didn’t seem to mind.

Fans took to Twitter to clap back at them. Of all Sam Smith’s songs, non is without a sexual theme. Not just his songs but his music videos often screams sex. One user wrote,

“But Sam Smith has made the criminal offense of being a) queer and b) not skinny, and in an increasingly anti-LGBTQ culture, that can’t be tolerated.”

In a lengthy Instagram post, the unholy singer wrote, “I’ve decided to embrace myself for who I am, inside and out. … Feeling super free right now. Be kind.”
