Ice Spice took fashion inspiration from Britney Spears by redesigning and rocking an updated version of the star’s VMAs red carpet look to the 2023 event’s after-party.

The dress is the Dolce & Gabbana white piece Britney Spears rocked at the 2003 awards show. The rapper wore the same dress with an updated modern twist. The recreated version features the same bodice-style top and mini skirt, long sleeves and a full lace-tiered tutu.

Unlike the dress worn by Ice Spice, Spears had only a sliver of lace lining the bottom of her skirt instead of the rapper’s full lace-tiered tutu. The 23-year-old star spiced the fit by pairing several long layered necklaces and a large cross pendant with it.

She also added a thick silver choker and stilettos to the lacy fit. In the images posted on her Instagram, a photo of Britney Spears could be seen in the iconic outfit as well as a sketch of the recreated version.

The Ice Spice remake comes 20 years after Spears wore a dress while performing at the VMAs with Madonna. The lace frock was also an earlier version of Madonna’s 1984 VMA dress. Then the dress featured a tulle skirt adorned with small white hearts during the first-ever MTV VMAs.

“Thank you so much. Thank you, MTV. Oh my God, this is so cool,” the “In Ha Mood” rapper said as the crowd roared before she thanked her fervent fanbase. “I just want to thank my Munchkins. I love you guys so much, Ice Spice said.

Then added, “I want to thank my manager James. I want to thank my producer Riot, for making the best music with me. Shout out to all the other nominees in this category. I want to thank my label 10K and Capitol for always supporting me. And of course God. Without God, none of this would be possible.”
