Cardi B and Megan There Stallion had an epic run with their song Wap released three years ago. Now, they have partnered up for a new song Bongos which drops on Friday.
On Monday, the mother of two announced that she collaborated with Stallion on a new single called Bongos via a cover art, shared on Instagram. The cover art showed both rocking a custom Matthew Reisman thong leotards.
Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi B paired the look with Jimmy Choo platform heels and massive bracelets. Both wore colourful curly wigs from Tresses x Sandrine, which were coiffed by Cardi’s hairstylist Mia (aka Tokyo Stylez) and Megan’s hairstylist Kellon Deryck, respectively.
As stated above, the rappers first collaborated on a raunchy single Wap (Wet-A** P****) which spent four weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2020. Wap was produced by Ayo & Keyz and heavily sampled Frank Ski’s 1993 Baltimore club single Wh***s in This House.
Stallion and Cardi B’s song broke several records and several awards. For example, WAP was certified 7× Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) last year. The video also amassed 510 million views on YouTube.
New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez even cleverly recoined the title ‘Women Against Patriarchy’ as it’s remarkable for two women to reach success in the typically misogynistic medium of hip-hop.
Featuring Megan Thee Stallion in Bongos came as a surprise. Cardi had stated in her September cover story for Vogue México that she was ‘not going to release any more collaborations’ before the release of her long-delayed second studio album.
‘I’m going to release my next solo single. Right now I’m working on the cover art and ideas for the next record because it’s definitely coming up,’ she said.
’’Everyone always tells me I should put the record out now, they did when I released WAP and when I released Up, but I always let them know I’m not going to wait long after all these singles. So stay tuned because it’s coming out very soon, Cardi B concluded.
Her husband, Offset also sweetly showed his support for her career by reposting the Bongos single cover via Instastory with the caption: ‘It’s up, let’s go!’ The rapper and Cardi share two kids.
