Barbie was released on 21st July alongside the bomb movie, Oppenheimer. The first weekend saw the movie grossing over $76 million after its debut at the cinemas.

The former highly anticipated movie starred Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Issa Rae, America Ferrera, etc. The movie has now surpassed all expectations.

After Barbie pulled in another $53 million at the US cinema this weekend, it is now official that the Greta Gerwig movie has raked in the one billion dollar benchmark on movies directed by a woman.

Only one movie stands above the recently released movie. This is the Super Mario Bros who raked in $1.4 billion. Per Box Office Mojo, the matte doll movie surpasses other movies such as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 ($845.3M), Fast X ($704.7M) and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse ($683.8M).

As stated earlier, Barbie has performed extremely well smashing a few records. First, it gave its director, the title of the first single female director to have a movie rake in a billion-dollar after the weekend’s 53 million dollars at the box office.

After the Mattel doll movie, the horror-thriller sequel Meg 2: The Trench came second place. The movie features an extremely dangerous underwater expedition, where the stars Jason Statham and Jing Wu, investigates a mining operation.

Unlike Barbie, the movie raked in 30 million while the first rival Oppenheimer movie came a distant third with $28.7 million. The bomb movie featured the real life story of the father of atomic bomb.

Starred by Cillian Murphy as the main character alongside others like Matt Damon, Emily Blunt and Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh. The movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles jumped came fourth with $28 million.

Teenage ninja mutant had a successful first weekend like Barbie pulling in $70 million. The movie was written by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and director Jeff Row.

Another notable incident at the box office is the sharp decline of the movie Haunted Mansion had an eerie drop, moving from third to fifth place due to it’s $8.97 million ticket sales in it’s second week out. 

The combination of barbie, and these movies totaled over $178 million. This aided the US box office to reek in more than $6 billion it has pulled in since January to August.
