Prince William is said to be enraged that his brother, Prince Harry, still has a relationship with Netflix, despite the streaming service “ruthlessly exploiting” the Royal Family.
This comes as Netflix prepares to release the sixth and final season of its smash-hit drama The Crown, which began in the 1950s.
The new series would represent incidents such as Princess Diana’s death in a car accident in Paris, with her ghost subsequently appearing in the show.
A friend of the Prince of Wales said: “William is angry about a lot of things in connection with Harry. His decision to work with Netflix, who have ruthlessly exploited the family, is certainly one of them.
“It’s incredibly hurtful to have his mother exploited over and over again in this tawdry fashion by Netflix. He won’t watch it, but he will be totally sickened by it.”
After stepping down as working royals and relocating to California in 2020, Harry and his wife Meghan Markle acquired several entertainment contracts.
Their connection with Spotify ended earlier this summer after only one series of Meghan’s podcast Archetypes, but they are rumored to be in talks with Amazon’s Audible.
They’ve also created content for Netflix, like the contentious documentary series Harry & Meghan, which shed light on their relationship and their experiences at the Firm.
Despite mixed critical reviews, it was a big economic success, breaking streaming records on the platform.
They followed it up with the executive-produced Heart of Invictus, which follows the competitors and their challenges at Harry’s Invictus Games in the Netherlands in 2022.
Other projects are rumored to be in the works, including an adaptation of Charles Dickens’s classic Great Expectations that will focus on Miss Havisham’s past.
The first installment of the final season of The Crown will be released on Netflix on November 16, with the second installment following on December 14.
The series will depict events such as Princess Margaret’s death, Prince William meeting Kate Middleton at the university, and the wedding of then-Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles.
The show will not cover any of Harry and Meghan’s relationship.
