The grandmother of three opened up on how she went for a routine mammogram and was diagnosed with cancer.

However, her representatives confirmed in a statement that she was now recovering at home.

Despite their divorce in 1996 after ten years of marriage, she shares the home with her ex-husband Andrew, 63.

They were supposed to have divorced four years before, owing to Andrew’s frequent absences from duty as a naval commander.

Despite the divorce, the couple remained good friends, and now Andrew is said to be by his ex-wife’s side as she recovers.

A spokesman for the Duchess told the Mirror, “Sarah, Duchess of York was recently diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer detected at a routine mammogram screening.”

“She was advised she needed to undergo surgery which has taken place successfully.”

“The Duchess is receiving the best medical care and her doctors have told her that the prognosis is good. She is now recuperating with her family.”

“The Duchess wants to express her immense gratitude to all the medical staff who have supported her in recent days.

“She is also hugely thankful to the staff involved in the mammogram which identified her illness, which was otherwise symptom-free, and believes her experience underlines the importance of regular screening.”

Fergie was not at the Royal Ascot last week, most likely because of her cancer surgery.

Andrew has also been absent from public view this week, having only attended the private sections of the Order of the Garter Day event on Monday.

The couple, who have been living together again since 2008, have been threatened with eviction from their 31-room Windsor estate property.
