Prince Harry reportedly gave Meghan Markle a gift that caused quite a stir among the Royal Family.
The Duchess of Sussex was even left “emotional” after an “uncomfortable” phone discussion with a Buckingham Palace employee.
Prince Harry is known for his thoughtful gifts, having previously given his wife a magnificent silver photo frame with a portrait of their four-year-old son, Archie.
However, in the early days of their relationship, the Duke of Sussex wanted to surprise his new partner with a bespoke piece of jewelry.
He spent a lot of money on a Maya Brenne 14-karat gold chain with M and H charms. The jewelry was valued at £235 ($300).
Meghan was seen wearing the piece while out and about, but it caused some controversy inside the Firm.
In their unofficial biography of Meghan and Harry, Finding Freedom, authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand discussed the fallout.
They further claimed that during a phone call, a royal adviser advised Meghan not to wear the necklace because it would draw unwanted attention from the press.
They wrote: “She was advised that wearing such a necklace only served to encourage the photographers to keep pursuing such images – and new headlines.”
Meghan allegedly told friends that the phone call made her “emotional” and that she “said very little” throughout the conversation.
The book said: “After hanging up, she felt frustrated and emotional. While she knew the aide had good intentions, the surreal experience of having someone from her boyfriend’s office tell her what kind of jewelry to wear or not to smile at a photographer was too much.”
The now Duchess of Sussex thought she was “damned if she did, and damned if she didn’t.”

She allegedly told a friend: “I can’t win. They make out like I’m to blame for these pictures, that it looks like I’m to blame for these pictures, that it looks like I’m encouraging them, that. Me even acknowledging the cameras may not be sending the right message.”
It comes as a new insider claims Meghan has “moved on” and is now taking a “softer approach” to Prince Harry’s poor relationship with the Royal Family.
