The 38-year-old racing driver made the fashion faux pas in 2015 when he was shown the red flag during the men’s final between Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer.

“Lewis turned up an hour late and wasn’t wearing a tie,” a source said at the time. “He was told he would need to put one on to enter the box but he threw a bit of hissy fit, which lasted a couple of minutes, and then left.”

“There is a strict dress code and the staff manning the box had no choice, he was asked not to enter the box.”

Lewis posted an Instagram photo of himself with the caption “Wimbledon” that showed him indoors silhouetted against the grass courts at SW19.

At
the time, a Mercedes spokeswoman stated, “Due to an unfortunate misunderstanding regarding the dress code at Wimbledon, Lewis is very disappointed to have missed the men’s final.”

There has been a slew of famous personalities in attendance at Wimbledon over the years, with Catherine, Princess of Wales, being the most frequently photographed in the Royal Box.

However, things did not go as planned for the royal’s younger sister Pippa, 39, and their mother Carole, 68.

Carole and Pippa had to settle for regular seats in 2017 after being turned away from the Royal Box because they arrived too late for Andy Murray’s match against Benoit Paire.

Kate’s younger sister and mother were photographed separately, just outside the players’ box, which is generally designated for athletes and their families, as well as VIP guests.
