According to a PR executive, the purported peace talks between Prince Harry and King Charles are “another story point in the soap opera” for the Firm.
It was previously rumored that Harry would meet with his father next month on his way back from the Invictus Games in Germany through London, however, his wife Meghan Markle was not expected to accompany him.
However, insiders later refuted the reports, emphasizing that Prince William was not ready to meet with his brother after being enraged by charges made in Harry’s book Spare.
“Only the men in that room know what will happen,” PR expert and founder of The Moment Lab Matt Yanofsky said of the debacle. “From a public relations standpoint, the Royal Family depends on storylines to stay in the news, especially when the public’s approval of the royals is in decline.”
“This is another story point in the soap opera, which is great for the entire family (and the viewers at home).”
If they do meet in September, it will be the first time they have spoken face to face since Harry used his autobiography, Spare, to criticize his father’s parenting style, accuse his stepmother Queen Camilla of being a “villain,” and claim William physically attacked him.
The Duke of Sussex did attend the King and Queen’s Coronation in May, but it was a brief visit because he rushed back to California without speaking to his immediate family.
“King Charles is due to return to London from Balmoral in the middle of September, which ties in with the end of Harry’s Invictus Games trip to Düsseldorf,” a source said.
“The King has a rescheduled official visit to France on September 20 so has a few days to spare in London to meet with his son. Staff are trying to fine-tune the details as we speak.”
While Charles is claimed to be eager to reunite with his family in the United States, he has been hurt by Harry’s actions and prefers for their chats to be kept private.
The source added: “The King loves his son very much but he has been mortally wounded by what he has done. He will always be there for him but draws the line at public slanging matches.
“If the talks take place, the King will make it very clear that there will be absolutely no private family business discussed in public moving forward.”
Other sources have denied these claims of any talks taking place, with a friend of William stating that there was “no chance” of a peace summit taking place.
“He [William] feels utterly betrayed by what Harry wrote about him in the book and said about him on Netflix,” the friend stated.
“They were very close growing up so it has been very painful for William. But ultimately what can he do? Just look at Spare. It’s literally William’s worst nightmare.”
