King Charles led national and worldwide salutes, to commemorate the first anniversary of his “darling mama’s” death.
The monarch led national and international tributes to Queen Elizabeth II, who died on this day last year at the age of 96, during her Platinum Jubilee year.
The message honors her lifetime of service and sacrifice while also thanking the public for their continuous support.
The King said: “In marking the first anniversary of Her late Majesty’s death and my Accession, we recall with great affection her long life, devoted service, and all she meant to so many of us.
“I am deeply grateful, too, for the love and support that has been shown to my wife and myself during this year as we do our utmost to be of service to you all.”
He signed the message, written on Balmoral Castle stationery, Charles R.
To commemorate the anniversary, the King has chosen a photograph of his late mother from the Royal Family archives.
It depicts the Queen, aged 42, in a portrait taken on 16 October 1968 at Buckingham Palace as part of an official sitting granted to Cecil Beaton.
She is dressed in her dark blue velvet mantle draped with white satin, which she wears every year for the Order of the Garter Service held at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.
Charles is currently in Balmoral, the Queen’s final resting place, where he rushed to be by her side before she died peacefully.
He will observe tomorrow in private with his wife, Queen Camilla.
Instead, Prince William, the King’s son and heir, is likely to pay public tribute to to his grandmother.
Charles referred to his mother as his “darling mama” frequently, even in his TV address the day following her death.
