It’s the season for festive attire, and Kate Middleton certainly delivered when she donned a wild red and white Christmas sweater for an upcoming holiday special.

A British citizen referring to anything Kate Middleton wears as “ugly” could be considered a capital offense (or, at worst, borderline treason).

However, in the preview of the upcoming Royal Carols: Together at Christmas concert, the Duchess of Cambridge may have inadvertently participated in the American tradition of the “Ugly Christmas Sweater.”

“I’m so excited to be hosting ‘Together at Christmas’ here at Westminster Abbey,” Kate, 39, said in an ITV1 sneak peek.

Kate wore a red cardigan with white buttons, a broad white collar, and vertical white rose designs in the snippet. The Duchess of Cambridge wore her hair down in gorgeous curly trestles that framed her face perfectly.

To be fair to the Duchess, the overall look – including the festive top – was quite appealing. Kate’s cardigan, on the other hand, wouldn’t look out of place at their Office “Ugly Holiday Sweaters” party. Sure, it wouldn’t win, but it might get a special mention when the awards are presented.

Kate will host a night of festive song and faith at Royal Carols: Together at Christmas. Ellie Goulding, Leona Lewis, and Tom Walker are among the performers. Prince William, 39, will read from the Christian Bible (Luke 2:1-7, per PEOPLE).

The event drew over 1,000 people, including the entire Middleton family. “Through our separation from others, we’ve been reminded just how powerful human connection is to all of us,” Kate wrote in the concert program, according to PEOPLE.

Kate and William released their 2021 holiday card, which featured their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and 3-year-old Prince Louis, ahead of the royal concert. They’ve dressed appropriately for the warmer weather because the photo was taken during a family trip to Jordan.

William and his boys are dressed in shorts and short-sleeved polo shirts, while Kate and Charlotte are dressed in flowing gowns. “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to share a new photograph of their family,” Kensington Palace stated in a statement accompanying the card.
