Harry and Meghan will compete against Prehistoric Planet 2, Rainn Wilson and the Geography of Bliss, Rennervations, The 1619 Project, and The Reluctant Traveler with Eugene Levy in the Best Streaming Nonfiction Series category.

While some praised the documentary-making duo, others slammed the nomination.

Harry & Meghan was aired in December and provided viewers with an intimate look into the couple’s life as they struggled to leave their roles within the Royal Family.

Their candidacy provoked a massive response on Twitter, with some claiming the documentary was unworthy of consideration.

Please, let anyone win… I’m sorry, they’re going to hate me but I have to be honest. Please don’t let Harry and Megan earn it, this series is bad, they’re just whiners pretending they’re attacking her privacy and contradicting themselves.” One commentator said.

“But it appears that the Harry & Meghan show was actually more fiction than nonfiction.” said another.

Meanwhile, a third said the nonfiction nod was unfair because “Harry & Meghan was full of fiction,” adding, “Even if you disregard their lies about the Royal Family, one can not say the footage they used of paps hounding other people, including Michael Cohen as if they were the ones being hounded is NON FICTION.”

Harry & Meghan was made based on fabrications and lies. Why is it nominated [for] nonfiction? Most of all, how on earth the badly rated show can be nominated for any award?” A fourth added.

While the nomination divided opinions as to which category it should be placed in, others encouraged the couple to win the award.

One Twitter user stated, “The Harry & Meghan Netflix series should win this category. Very well deserved!!”

The documentary looked to be a big hit with Netflix users, as the streaming site stated that 2.4 million people watched it on the first day it was released.

It was a larger hit than The Crown, a drama about events in the British monarchy that drew 1.1 million viewers on its first day.

The six-part series examines Harry and Meghan’s relationship with the Royal Family.

It also touched on the logic for their shocking choice to leave their frontline royal responsibilities for private life in the United States in March 2020.
