Gaurav Gupta took a turn to the softer side for his second collection at the Paris Fashion Week. The designer has great pieces that made his red carpet shows delightful to watch
The Indian designer has created several signature swooping gowns, but this fashion show saw him experimenting with cushy, pillowy volume and simpler cuts.
Gaurav Gupta designed several cue slinky, sequined column dresses with hoods, voluminous gowns with pleated folds, and sculptural bolero jackets.
The Gaurav Gupta Couture Fall 2023 is titled “Hiranyagarbha,”. The designer pondered the source of the universe and referenced the Indian creation story of the golden womb.
The fashion show first saw pure white looks, then earthy chocolates, emeralds, and chrysalis greens. The models walked to Indian classical music that evoked ancient rituals.
The emerald green gown by the designer had a floral swirl on the hip and exquisite draping across the body giving a sculptural movement to the shape.
Its high-necked sheath had strategic slashes for a bit of skin, the swirls cradling the arm.
Gaurav Gupta said, “I’m constantly in a paradox because there is stiffness, but it’s a fluid stiffness and the structure this season is draped structure”.
“I wanted to keep a balance between extreme art and a bit more relatable, wearable materials.”
The designer created pantsuits with scooped, open-neck jackets and gently rounded hips to demonstrate that couture clients can wear his numbers not just celebrities.
Gaurav Gupta had a solid front row for a new couturier. Although Cardi B kept the impatient crowd waiting nearly an hour, then stormed in wearing a bright green gown with a padded hood, causing a frenzy.
Cardi B’s gown with the dramatic flare that emerged from the back of the gown is a nod to the brand.
But overall, Gaurav Gupta created a balance against last season’s very conceptual pieces to bring his collection down to earth.
