Ricky Martin and Jwan Yosef are getting a divorce.
The estranged couple announced on Thursday that they will be going their separate ways after six years of marriage, but they remain committed to the “joint upbringing” of their children.
“For some time, we have considered transforming our relationship, and it is after careful consideration that we have decided to end our marriage with love, respect, and dignity for our children — preserving and honoring what we have experienced as a couple all of these wonderful years,” they said in a joint statement shared via Instagram.
“Our greatest desire now is to continue having a healthy family dynamic and a relationship centered on our genuine friendship as we continue the joint upbringing of our children.”
“As always, we thank you for all the love and support we received throughout our marriage. We are united in nurturing this new chapter of our lives.” Martin and Yosef concluded their statement.
The singer, 51, and the painter, 38, have two children: Lucia, 4, and Renn, 3.
Martin also has 14-year-old twin kids, Matteo and Valentino, whom he had before marrying Yosef. According to People, who broke the divorce news, the Grammy winner will raise the teens as a single parent.
Martin and Yosef first met in 2015, and the “Livin’ La Vida Loca” singer announced their engagement the following year.
“I was really nervous, and I got on my knees, and I took out the little metal box,” he explained to Ellen DeGeneres in November 2016 of the proposal. “I just had it in a little velvet pouch and instead of saying, ‘Will you marry me?’ I said, ‘I got you something!’ Bad.”
Yosef said yes, and the couple married in 2017, followed by the births of Lucia and Renn in 2018 and 2019, respectively.
