The dancers became parents in January 2017 when their son Shai, now 6, was born.
Murgatroyd, 36, stated five years later that she and Chmerkovskiy, 43, had been struggling to give Shai a sibling.
During a June 2022 interview with People, she discussed her three miscarriages in two years, as well as the “embarrassment” and “shame” she felt.
“I never thought that two healthy, athletic people could be in a predicament like this,” Chmerkovskiy remarked. “It’s a lot to process.”

Following their marriage in July 2017, the pair began sharing their in vitro fertilization experience on social media.
Murgatroyd underwent an egg retrieval procedure in June 2022, followed two months later by an embryo transfer.
Although the latter failed and Murgatroyd intended to “take a little break” from IVF, she stated in January that baby No. 2 was on the way.

“After 2 years of constant struggle and heartache… we have a healthy bun in the oven,” the then-expectant celebrity said on Instagram. “It was a shock to all of us and we found out right before I was going in for my second round of IV.”

“This news has brought extraordinary bliss to our family and we have so much to be grateful for,” she concluded. “Coming June 2023.”
Murgatroyd continued to show off her baby bump growth, confirming the gender of their newborn boy three months later.
