Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner issued a joint statement on Wednesday to address their divorce publicly for the first time.
“After four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage,” the estranged couple wrote in a post to Instagram.

“There are many speculative narratives as to why but, truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children.”
The announcement comes just one day after Jonas, 34, filed for divorce from Turner, 27, in Miami, claiming in court records obtained by TSZ Newz that their marriage was “irretrievably broken.”
In the statement, the Jonas Brothers member also stated that his and the “Game of Thrones” star’s two girls had been living with him, but he is seeking “shared parental responsibility” following their divorce.
According to a source close to the Jonas family, “divorce was a last resort for Joe,” who “never wanted to break up his family, but… had to take what he felt was the best course of action for his girls.”
“Joe finally reached a point where he felt that he had exhausted all options to salvage the marriage,” the insider added.
The couple’s marital woes initially made news on Sunday, when it was announced they were divorcing.
Despite their divorce, the “Burnin’ Up” singer performed “Hesitate,” a love ballad for his estranged wife, during the JoBros’ concert on Sunday night.
The 2019 single was heavily influenced by their 2016 romance.
”It’s like my vows before I wrote my vows. It’s my promise to Sophie,” Jonas said of the tune in his family band’s 2020 “Happiness Continues” concert film.
Fans also noticed that the DNCE vocalist wore his wedding band again for the event, after not wearing it on earlier dates of his Five Albums, One Night tour with siblings Kevin and Nick Jonas.
Joe and Turner eloped in Las Vegas in May 2019, nearly two years after announcing their engagement.
Willa, their first child, was born in July 2020, and their second child, was born in July 2022.
