Jennifer Garner Calls Co-parenting With Ex-Husband Ben Affleck ‘A Gift’

Jennifer Garner considers motherhood to be a “gift,” despite the difficulties that come with co-parenting in the spotlight with ex Ben Affleck.

During Variety’s “Actors on Actors” series, the actress talked with Sheryl Lee Ralph about how they’ve both managed to provide their children a “normal life” while being in the spotlight.

“We have so many things in common. With all the celebrity and all of that, I feel like I have a very normal life, and I think you have that similar sort of vibe. And we love our kids,” Ralph, 66, said, to which Garner, 51, responded, “And all the mess of parenting.

Garner has three children with Affleck: Violet, 17, Seraphina, 14, and Samuel, 11, while Ralph has two children with ex-husband Eric Maurice: Ivy-Victoria, 28, and Etienne Maurice, 31.

Garner agreed with Ralph further when she claimed that keeping a “healthy relationship” with her ex-husband was “difficult” with the “spotlight” on her “all the time.”

Garner previously claimed to being a “nightmare” during her early motherhood days with her daughter Violet.

“I was such a first-time mom,” the “Alias” actor said to Allure in May, joking that her daughter “didn’t have a shot.”

“She couldn’t think for herself because I was all over her. Everyone around me described me as “a nightmare.”

The actress did not go into detail about her current co-parenting relationship with Affleck, but she did reveal that her children prefer to watch Affleck’s films over her own.

“They don’t mind watching their dad, but they kind of want me to be their mum,” she explained. “They don’t want to see me upset, and women cry more in what we do.” And they don’t really want to see me in a romantic thing.”

During a March interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Affleck, 50, also discussed his children’s film tastes.

He explained that the youngsters enjoy to “make fun of” Affleck and that “the whole thing is kind of preposterous.”

Garner and the “Good Will Hunting” actress divorced in 2015 after a 10-year marriage. The “Air” star married Jennifer Lopez, 53, in July 2022.

Meanwhile, since 2018, Garner has been seeing CaliBurger CEO John Miller on and off.
